As wintertime has arrived (most definitely the past week), so have the effects of that cold and dry winter air on your hair. Yes, you know what we are talking about. Frizz, static hair and of course dryness. Constant exposure to the harsh cold elements outside and regular changes of environment to heated indoors can easily remove moisture which as a result can lead dry and dull hair that is vulnerable to damage. This can mean that your well taken care of and beloved hair strands can be at risk of breakage due to the dry, cold winter air, but also breakage, dryness, loss of curls, and dandruff can appear due to its weakness.

Completely eliminating the issues aforementioned, is always going to be a laborious act considering the busy daily lives we all lead nowadays but nonetheless, there are many tips and advice we often provide to help minimise these harsh winter effects and prevent damage.
In order to maintain your hair;s health and fabulous feeling all year long, there are a few precautions you can take throughout the year but also some tips and tricks below so you can achieve healthy hair this winter.
1. Moisturise your hair and scalp
When shampooing your hair you may be removing all the dirt but you are also removing all the moisture. It is hence crucial that you are replacing the loss of moisture and trying to get as many ingredients that can help rebuild the hair from the inside as possible such as conditioners with natural ingredients such as coconut oil, argan and castor oils.
2. Eat Healthy
Eating healthy should be a given for your lifestyle but can also have a positive effect on your hair. A healthy diet benefits your entire body, and your hair is no exception to that. Prioritising proteins (lentils, eggs, poultry), Vitamin D and Omega 3 (salmon, trout, etc), Vitamin C (blueberries, spinach, kale and broccoli) and Beta-carotene, (present in sweet potatoes, apricots, and carrots). as it contains Vitamin A which helps strengthen you hair.
Also, do consider vegan hair supplements that contain Biotin, Vitamin C, E, and Keratin and not only target hair health, but nail and skin as well.
3. Switch to a Silk Pillowcase
Yeap, we know. It sounds tremendously odd and unrealistic but it does actually work. Rubbing your hair on a pillowcase all night causes split ends, damage and overall messiness. Just like using a micro-fibre towel would, a silk pillowcase has smaller fibres compared to a cotton one, which consequently leads to less snagging and pulling on your hair as you taking those well needed resting naps. What is more, silk tends to be much smoother to the skin over time and reduces potential for wrinkles due to the smoother fabric surface.
4. Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is key for your hair as a single strand of hair contains over 25% of water. Staying hydrated helps prevent split ends and brittle hair, fostering shiny and glowing hair throughout the seasons. Always drink enough water and make sure you have a glass daily when you wake up and before you sleep.
5. Less is More
As it is winter and you are probably going to be wearing a hat for many hours of the day, try to stress your hair as little as possible. Less is More when it comes to hair care at winter and hence over-straining or styling your hair will only have a counter-productive effect. That means less heat styling, less washing, less dyeing, as all these will dry your hair out even more.
