What colours can henna produce?

Pure henna (Lawsonia inermis) produces shades from copper to deep auburn. By blending with other plants like indigo (for darker tones), chamomile (for golden highlights), walnut (for brown depth) and hibiscus (for red intensity), we can create a wide range from warm blonde to dark brown and rich red. True black is achievable with a henna-indigo two-step process.

Can henna cover grey hair?

Yes. At GA Salons, grey coverage is one of our most requested henna services. For up to 30% grey, our 100% organic plant colour provides excellent coverage. For higher grey percentages, our organic colour with pigment option delivers fuller, more consistent coverage. Your colourist will recommend the right formula during consultation.

How long does henna colour last?

Henna is permanent — it doesn't wash out like semi-permanent dye. It gradually fades very subtly over 4 to 6 weeks but never disappears completely. Most clients refresh their henna every 4 to 6 weeks, though some stretch to 8 weeks. With each application, the colour builds and becomes richer.

Can I go back to chemical dye after henna?

It's possible but requires care. Henna coats the hair shaft, which can affect how chemical dyes interact with your hair. If you're considering switching back, consult with our colourists first — we can advise on the safest transition approach. Never apply chemical dye directly over recent henna without professional guidance.

Is henna safe during pregnancy?

Pure, body-quality henna (which is all we use at GA Salons) is generally considered safe during pregnancy as it contains no ammonia, peroxide or synthetic chemicals. However, we always recommend consulting your doctor first. Many pregnant clients choose henna specifically because of its natural composition.

What happens during a henna appointment at GA Salons?

Your appointment begins with a consultation to discuss your goals and assess your hair. Your colourist then creates a custom plant-based formula. The henna mixture is applied section by section, then wrapped and left to develop for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the formula. After rinsing, you'll see the colour deepen over the following 48 hours as the henna oxidises.
