Getting your hair cut is an exciting experience that you want to get right every time you visit your hairstylist. You want to get to a point where you can walk in, relax and know that you’re going to get the results your dream off. These tips from our inhouse stylist will help you to better communicate the haircut you so desire.
Book a consultation
It’s always a good idea, especially if it’s your first time with the stylist or getting a new cut, to book yourself a consultation. This will give you a chance to meet with your hairstylist and discuss what look you’re looking to achieve. Be open and honest about what exactly you want as the more information you can give, the better chance your stylist has at achieving your hair goals.
Mention your routine/time spent daily
Let your stylist know of your daily hair routine. If you’re someone that just throws their hair into a messy bun on most days because it’s quick, fast and easy to deal with then tell your stylist as they can create a cut that will be easy to manage. On the contrary, if you’re happy to have a haircut that’s high maintenance, requiring the use of more hairstyling products, then this gives the hairstylist to create more challenging, complex cuts.
Create a collection of hair inspiration photos to show your stylist. You can get inspiration from beauty magazines, TV and even Pinterest and Instagram. There’s a whole library of images for you to view and find the perfect cut that suits your style and personality. When you’ve found your top 3 photos, save these on your phone to be ready to show to your stylist what you want. It may be easier for your hairstylist to understand what cut you’re aiming for if they can visually see it rather than trying to explain it. Especially if you don’t know the right styling terms to use correctly.
Take on board your stylist suggestions
While you may have the perfect cut in mind and know exactly what you want, keep in mind that you are getting your hair cut by an expert hairstylist. They will take into account the look you want to achieve whilst setting realistic expectations. The colour, length and texture of your hair all need to be taken into consideration when performing a cut. So trust in your stylist that they know what there talking about if they provide you with an alternative suggestion. You don’t have to feel obligated to agree but definitely take on board their recommendation.
