7 Tips to correctly wash your hair!

Not cleansing your hair correctly can cause build-up and dull your hair which is something we have been told many times, since we resumed taking appointments again and speaking to our beloved customers. Now the isolation measures are easing and the sun is proudly (and loudly) making his appearance for many of us, bad hair days seem to be just another fact of life. Whether you blame it on distancing measures, genetics, or simply a bad day, it is evident there is a clear disconnect between the time you spend treating our hair, the effort you put in, and how successful our efforts to get a Photoshoot-ready hair-do to come out.

Nonetheless, while you may be cursing your hereditary features, for what you believe to be an untameable mane, there’s a likelier reason for it: your washing technique. In fact, it is most probable that what you are doing in the shower (no, not the singing part) is partly to blame for your frequent encounters with “bad hair days”.

So let’s have a look at some useful and easy to follow tips, provided by our head stylists at GA Salons, to make sure your hair comes out sparkly clean, every time you wash your hair.

  1. Always brush your hair after conditioning it: If you are one that enjoys brushing your hair, do not overdo it and always brush your hair after having conditioned it.
  2. Always start at the ends: Try to start your wash by beginning from the ends and work your way up to the roots with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.
  3. Wash your hair whenever you need to: If you’re exercising or your scalp is oily, and you need to do so daily, that’s fine. If you can go a few days without, great.
  4. Use a shampoo & conditioner: Make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before resuming and try to use a shampoo/conditioner specifically for your hair type, prescribed by a trained professional or our GA Stylists. However, try to use less conditioner than shampoo as it can result in oily hair if overused in large amounts.
  5. Make use of your fingertips to rub your head: the reasoning behind this for many professionals is the fact that rubbing your scalp (and not your hair) allows all the dead skin and sweat to “fall off” as you scrub away! It hence also allows provides the scalp with exfoliation and stimulates blood circulation whilst encouraging growth.
  6. Use a hair mask regularly: Hair masks provide vital nourishment and nutrients your hair requires. Establish 2 or 3 days a week for taking care of your hair. When it’s “hair mask day”, apply it from root to tip and leave it on your hair for the recommended time. Once it has all absorbed, rinse thoroughly, and apply your conditioner.

Do not forget, we are now able to take appointments again through our email. Please do remember, that we have been closed for a little while and hence have a large list of appointments already, but we will do everything we can to get you in, as soon as possible.
