How to Blow-Dry your Hair at Home!

It has been a difficult week for everyone and also here for us at GA Salons, with our 4 stores having to be closed due to the Government instructions on the current pandemic ravaging the world. We are normally used to seeing all our beloved customers and fans in our London Salons and sharing their stories with us as well as our knowledge with them.

In this week’s blog, we received many messages and questions from our customers on how to better take care of their hair at this time when they have plentiful time on their hands. As most of our customers, tend to take care of their hair, body and skin it seemed natural to us that with the abundance of time available, their hair would also become an area of focus.

We have so decided to add some short but highly effective tips below on how to Blow-Dry your hair whilst at home these sunny spring days.

Whether you want a style with volume or without frizz, have short or curly hair, everyone loves that salon-fresh feeling you get when you’ve just had a professional blow-dry. It is something our customers often note to us when they send us their review or when they have just left he salon. Just blasting your hair for as long as possible will of course eventually get it dry but it is not necessarily the best way to go abut your blowout.

So, how do you do it, you ask? Here is our advice on how to blow-dry your hair like a salon pro (even for beginners!) with some very effective tips and get a voluminous finish.

Step 1 – Use a Quality Hair Dryer!

The #1 essential for a great blowout is a great blow dryer. If you really want a GA Salon-quality blowout, you need to be prepared to invest in a decent hair dryer and brushes. Our advice would be to go for Ionic hair dryers (also known as Ionic Hair Technology Dryers) as they not only offer multiple heat settings but also include technology designed to prevent heat damage. They are particularly good at breaking down water molecules quicker, which makes your hair dry faster. Ionic air technology also reduces frizz and creates shine, so you’ll end up with a smoother finish.

Step 2 – Dry Section your Hair!

You can then start drying your hair, always starting from the roots slowly. Once your hair is semi dry start to part it off into several sections, (especially important for those with thick hair as this will minimize the drying time) and create a horizontal parting along the back of your hair and fasten the top section of hair out of the way.  You can then proceed to dry the bottom layers first to make sure all the hair is dried thoroughly.

Step 3 – Mange the Heat!

The less that your hair is exposed to the heat, the healthier it’ll be. If you also have a heat protection spray then do not hesitate to use it as it will help “smoothen” the process and assist to avoid breakage and damage to your hair.

Step 4 – Use the Nozzle!

When it comes to drying your hair, the nozzle is actually much more important than what you may think. In order to achieve a fresh and vibrant look, the nozzle is key to your DIY Blow-dry as it focuses on the direction of your hair when it is drying. Always use an appropriate brush for your hair and continually follow the brush with the nozzle of the dryer facing in the direction of the brush.

Step 5 – Finish off & Shine!

Now your hair is beautifully prepped and dried, let your hair ‘set’ or cool down on the brush before moving onto the next section. Shake your hair gently and it give a quick blast with a stream of cool air from your hair dryer for that extra elasticity.

Mist over your hair with a lightweight setting spray to finish and Voila..Your GA Salons Blow Dry is ready!

You are probably wondering if this will actually last longer than a can indeed. If you have not added too many additional heavy products to your hair and before going to for that well needed beauty rest, try and sleep using a silk cap (or simply twist your hair in a tight bun) that will prevent hair frizz – silk pillows also have a similar effect.

When you wake up in the morning, simply brush your hair gently with a wide brush and use a dry shampoo to the roots to revive the volume and add light hair spray to finish your look. Next time you reach for the hair-dryer, remember these simple blow drying tips above to achieve the best possible looking finish!

Tell us of any other tips and advice you may have or perhaps used in the past to ensure your scalp stays healthy and shiny throughout the winter cold.
